Unhoused Families
Support for families with young children experiencing homelessness
Smart Start of Transylvania County is participating in a community-based project seeking to improve support for families with young children in Transylvania County who are experiencing homelessness or who lack stable housing. This program partners with unhoused families to connect them to relevant physical and mental health resources, as well as assist them in securing basic necessities like food, clothing, and infant supplies.
Helping All Children Thrive
Lacking a stable home can have a profound effect on the development of young children, with unhoused children experiencing a higher rate of health problems, nutritional deficiencies, and developmental delays.
SSTC envisions a community where all young children thrive and recognizes the importance of supporting our most vulnerable populations to help families in difficult circumstances to remain hopeful and resilient.
Reach Out for Support
A lot is needed to keep a child safe and healthy and children across all care environments are equally deserving of having their developmental needs fully met.
If you care for a child aged 0-5 and are currently between houses or experiencing homelessness, you can reach out to us for support.
We will do our best to help connect you with appropriate community resources and may be able to help with specific item needs as well.
