We’re Hiring - Executive Director

Smart Start of Transylvania County (SSTC) seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization and continue its role as a leader in early childhood education and young children’s early development.

SSTC is part of the North Carolina Partnership for Children, a nationally recognized, award-winning early childhood initiative designed to ensure that young children thrive.

In collaboration with its community partners, SSTC is working to:

  • Be a champion for young children through collaboration, public education, and influencing public policy,

  • Ensure young children have equitable access to developmentally appropriate, high-quality learning,

  • Assist and encourage early childhood educators in their pursuit of excellence and promote an environment that elevates the profession

  • Pursue opportunities to advance the health and well-being of young children and their families.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the organization's sustainability, including:

  • Nurture the organizational culture

  • Talent acquisition, retention, and management

  • Develop sustainable funding streams through funder relationships, successful grant awards, and management of grant cycles

  • Ensure sound fiscal management and compliance with multiple funding streams

  • Strong public relations, advocacy, and communications skills

  • Achieve the mission of SSTC through strategically selected programs

  • Support board operations

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Vision, Mission, and Strategies

Works with Board and team to oversee the implementation of the annual and strategic planning to guide SSTC towards achievement of its vision and mission.

• Fiscal Management

- Ensures that solid planning and budgeting systems are in place to ensure that income is managed wisely to serve the organizational goals.

- Ensures that systems and staff are in place to accurately manage the finances, monitor, and assess the financial health of the organization.

- Works within the compliance requirements of all funders and the Smart Start network financial accountability requirements.

- Ensures compliance with al statutory requirements that being a nonprofit requires.

• Board Relations

- Works with the Board of Directors ot develop a proactive vision for the future achievement of the organization's mission.

- Serves as a non-voting member of the Board, Executive Committee, and other ad hoc committees requested by the board Chair.

• External Liaison and Public Image

- As primary champion and spokesperson for the organization, the Executive Director inspires external partners to collaborate with SSTC on strategies to fulfill its mission while positioning the organization to be highly visible and work to develop dynamic working relationships with diverse constituencies including government, education, nonprofit, business, religious and donors.

• Fundraising and Resource Development

- Drives fundraising/grant writing initiatives for developing and implementing appropriate and diversified fundraising/grant writing strategies.

- Ensures that annual revenue goals are met.

• Accomplishment of Management Objectives

- Encourages teamwork in the development and implementation of work plans aimed at achieving strategic plan priorities.

- Fosters an environment in which staff can most effectively contribute to the organization's mission.

- Through organizational development and oversight of its leadership team, ensures that SSTC maximizes and supports its human resources.

• Program Design and Implementation

- Facilitates long and short range programs, planning, and develops annual workplans with the SSTC team.

• Human Resources Management

- Responsible for recruiting and retaining a strong staff built on teamwork and collaborative decision-making.

- Provides staff leadership development activities that upgrade employee skills, motivate performance, promote staff retention, and ensures adherence to the personnel policies in all hiring and employment practices.

- Ensures compliance with SSTC's personnel policies and procedures.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with experience (DOE).
