SSTC Thanks Funder for K-Readiness Support
Smart Start of Transylvania County (SSTC) would like to thank The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Brevard for funding the 2022 Jump Start to Kindergarten Program. This annual program is hosted in local elementary schools during July and August. Rising kindergartners attend a multi-day camp at their elementary school and meet future classmates, teachers and principals in their new school setting. Teachers create fun themes around which students participate in learning activities, make crafts and get to know their school surroundings. Their experiences help build social and emotional health, enhance early literacy and learning skills and create familiarity with school routines.
The ECW is a steadfast supporter of SSTC programming to improve the lives of local children and families, having funded multiple initiatives based on community needs as we identify them. Their dedication to SSTC’s organizational vision “in which every young child in Transylvania County is thriving” makes them a valued community partner.
The local school partners served 170 students this summer in Jump Start to Kindergarten. SSTC recognizes the efforts of the school staff partners who work during their summer breaks to welcome new students to school, creating a positive start to a long-lasting relationship between families and schools. Jump Start could not exist without local resilient and dedicated educators.
Jump Start to Kindergarten was offered at Brevard Academy, Brevard Elementary School, Pisgah Forest Elementary School, Rosman Elementary School and T.C. Henderson Elementary School. Nicole Breeden, Jump Start educator at Rosman Elementary reflected: “The upcoming kindergarteners had such a wonderful time at camp. This was a great way to introduce them to kindergarten and get familiar with the school. The camp is a great way for parents to ask questions and see how much fun their little guys are having.
